Position Overview:

The Forklift Operator is a crucial role at Renew Waste Solutions. From beginning of day inspections, to end of day cleaning, everything the operator does is important in the day to day operation of the plant. Strict adherence to this guide will ensure safe, efficient operation and will help the employee avoid disciplinary action.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Beginning of Shift Inspection

    • Before every shift, the forklift that the operator will be using that day is required to be thoroughly inspected.

    • A checklist will be provided that should be gone through, signed, and turned in to the Operations Manager.

    • A trainer will go through this checklist with the trainee.

  • Staging Bales

    • As the shift gets underway, the baler will begin to discharge tied bales that are ready for shipment.

    • A main responsibility of the forklift operator is to move these bales from the baler discharge area, to the staging area for shipment.

    • Different types of materials will have different staging areas so ensure that the bale being staged is being put in the correct location. 

  • Loading Staged Bales on  Trailers

    • When given instruction to do so by the Operations Manager, bales that have been previously staged are to be loaded onto assigned trailers for shipment.

    • Safely completing this task is crucial.   

  • Unloading Trailers

    • When given instruction to do so by the Operation’s Manager, incoming loads may need to be unloaded and staged. 

  • Staging Materials for Materials Handler

    • The Forklift Operator may be the only employee authorized to use a forklift at a given time.

    • As such, they will be responsible for transporting materials to be cut down, or otherwise processed by the materials handler.

    • When a materials handler needs additional material to process, they will communicate the need to the forklift operator who will then bring the requested material. 

  • Cross Contamination

    • While loading and unloading box trailers, the forklift operator may be the only one to notice debris and loose material in trailers.

    • As such it will be their responsibility to sweep out trailers if necessary before loading or after unloading. Also sweep any debri on ground before bales are staged and set down.

  • Housekeeping

    • The forklift operator will be responsible for keeping areas in which they work neat and organized.

    • This includes keeping bale staging areas well organized, ensuring outbound trailers are staged properly, and cross contamination is minimized.

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to lift and move 50 lbs or more

  • Able to handle exposure to the Shreveport summer (this is an open-air warehouse)

  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening

  • Able to be on time and ready to work in a fast-paced environment

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Forklift and Skid Loader experience

  • Mechanical knowledge and experience
